Me checking out the Jayhawk. I LOVE THESE HELOS!

Us with the C-130

I had a great time hanging out with a bunch of wives and helping run the cake walk at the party. Joe was on duty so he was able to stop by and then show me around the airfield and hangers. We had an awesome time. It's always neat to see first hand what your spouse does for a living. I'm so proud of him. He is amazing.

Best Destination of '09

This year I have traveled a lot. Which makes me happy because at the beginning of the year I made a resolution to travel more. This is listed in no particular order. I was going to list them from Jan-Dec but it was taking me too much time.

I went to California to visit a friend. Although her and I no longer keep in touch, I still do treasure the memories from the trip. She was gracious enough to allow me into her home, and also to drive me all over her region of Cali. I had a fantastic time!

Joe and I headed back to Cape May, NJ. We hadn't been here since December 2007 and even then we didn't sight see much. The weather was much warmer and so the beaches were packed. We loved the lighthouse.
I went to Philadelphia TWO times this year. My husband got sent there for the summer so I went to visit him. We had such a great time. When he first left it was really hard on me. However, I had a literal rude awakening. I learned to just go with the flow. I learned a lot about myself and a lot about the friends that I had. It's weird what comes out of certain trials in your life. This summer certainly changed ME and changed the company I keep....in a good way.
I went up to Yorktown, VA with my friend Donna so that we could watch Savvy graduate from A-School. It was just a short weekend trip but we had an awesome time. I miss these ladies so much now.
We traveled through Nashville, TN to visit our friend Vaughn. My brother and him became good friends in the Navy and now Vaughn is an extension of our family. He's always visiting KC to see us, so we thought that we would drop in to see him.

We traveled to Williamsburg, Va to take in all the history in the Historic Triangle. We had such a great time and soon plan on going back since it is now only 2 hours away from where we live.

We also traveled home to Kansas City TWO times. Once in February and once in October. It is always wonderful to see our family and friends there. We took in so many sights, did so many things, and met up with so many people...that we were exhausted both times when we returned to NC. However, it was totally worth it to be able to do it all. We love everyone there and can't wait to return.
So after taking it all in I decided my favorite trip was to Washington D.C. I honestly wish I could go there once a year. It is so breathtaking and full of life. We got to ride the Metro rail for the first time...it's actually kind of fun as long as it isn't packed. We got to see so many important monuments and documents that we've always dreamed of seeing. We got to just spend quality time together day after day after day. It was phenomenal.

Here's to a little more traveling in 2010!

Coast Guard Christmas Party

Getting ready to head out the door for the party

My friend Kayla and me at the beginning of the night
Kayla and her husband Zach
They were both a little nervous about leaving their kids for the night. However, they finally relaxed and were able to have a great time. And she looks FABULOUS for just having a baby less than a year ago.

Joe and Me all doozied up

A group of us girls out on the dance floor. There were probably around 250+ people there and NO ONE was dancing... so we decided to get the party started. People probably thought we were nuts, but I had a fantastic time.
Two of the guys, making up a little dance routine.

Us girls again, all sweating from all the dancing

Joe and Zach posing with the door prize Zach won. A HUGE gift basket full of all sorts of chocolates, candles, and numerous other goodies.

Apparently our group is lucky because this is the door prize that Joe and I won. We have no idea what we're going to do with it though. ha!

Joe and I leaving the hanger and heading home after one crazy night.

What a fantastic evening.

Wordless Wednesday-Her First Sweater

Our Thanksgivings

The weekend before Turkey Day we headed back to our previous town and stayed with our best friends. We were greeted as soon as we pulled into the driveway and treated wonderfully. I love them so much! They have an amazing guest room that is beautifully set up and decorated. They also have a guest book to sign, date, and write an entry about your visit. I adored this idea. I was excited to be the first FRIEND to write in it. I've been at that house a million times so it was weird to be official house guests.

I had been waiting 3 weeks to snuggle with my Cullen again.

Joe getting him dressed warm for our trip to the beach. It was actually pretty chilly there that weekend.

The five of us had a very relaxing walk on the beach. It was pretty perfect because we felt pretty stuffed from all of the food. By the way, she cooked EVERYTHING since we had to travel 5 hours to get there. She is amazing and I cannot be more thankful to have her in my life.

I found this at a store near our new place. My friend Kayla convinced me to buy some. It's chocolate wine called CHOCOVINE. It's chocolate and red wine mixed. It tastes kind of like a white russian.Very thick and you can't take in too much....but good.

CHEERS!

All the guys hanging out.

It unfortunately was only an overnight trip... but it was very memorable. It's awesome to have friends that are like family.

We headed back north....to our new home.
We are lucky to have become friends with Kayla, Zach, and their 2 kiddos since moving here. They are a great couple and we have a wonderful time with them. Plus their kids are amazing. On Thanksgiving Day we headed over to their home. Kayla is also a fabulous cook. She made both a turkey and a ham, and too many sides to count. I brought many homemade pies, a few sides and drinks. We had SO MUCH FOOD. We were all pretty miserable. I somehow didn't get any photos. (seems impossible, right?) We watched some UFC and played Apples to Apples. It was very nice. Of course we missed our families during Thanksgiving week. But you learn to create your own kind of family.
I could not be more thankful for my makeshift families.
